Elements of Self: My Favourite Body Part

Self-Portrait 03.09.10

This week, our task is to do a portrait that displays our favourite body part. I rather like my eyes, but I’ve done that one already. And frankly, I should be able to think of more than just the one part that I like. Tricky. Right now I’m heavier than I’ve ever been before, and pretty uncomfortable about it.

Ah, then it struck me. The one thing that never looks ‘fat’ is my hair! And, it actually does a remarkable job of slimming my face, and even somehow my appearance for me. Perhaps because it is thick and a bit wild, it just detracts from the wobbly bits underneath.

I do like my hair. I want it even longer and wilder. When it’s been short, I’ve felt totally un-me. Samson, by any other name. In this case, Samantha.

This last one looks a bit over-posed, but I’m not very comfortable in front of the camera, and I just wanted to give a side shot of my locks.

And, for a giggle, I have to include these last two pictures:

Self-Portrait #6

I’m not particularly impressed with my chest or cleavage, but apparently my son is, as he took these pictures recently with the camera on my mobile phone, and I think they make my chest look quite good. It does make me laugh.

I feel that I should say more. Be as poetic and erudite as Juliana in her post, but I can’t this week. I am tired beyond tired. September comes and knocks me flat, and all I want to do is sleep. Tomorrow I’m going on an Equestrian Art Workshop. I should be full of the joys of the drawing and painting I’m going to do tomorrow, but I’m just wondering if I will be able to get through the day without napping.

You do have beautiful hair. It seems lustruous and romantic. I wish you long and peaceful sleep.

Thank you, Sarah. The sleep was not long enough, but mostly my own fault as I should have gone to bed earlier.

Your hair is gorgeous. It will look so good longer and wilder :~) You are lucky to have the thickness and weight…mine is long, but light and fine.

I hope you are rested today, so to enjoy your Equestrian Art Workshop. Will you be telling us about it? It sounds interesting.
Blessed be.

Helen, not rested enough. I’ve been trying to catch up all week, but I need to do less and rest more, which is very hard for me. The Equestriam Art Workshop was interesting…. perhaps I shall tell more later on.
Bright Blessings.

Thanks, Mon. I like your style–I’ve always tried to think of it the other way round, you know, the weight is all part of ‘me’ so I ‘should’ love it all, but I’m going to take your perspective for a while instead.
Bright Blessings.

Thanks, Hun. Do you recognize the necklace at all? It’s the symbol from the well head at Chalice Well in Glastonbury (very special to me).

Your hair is absolutely gorgeous. I’ve always wanted wavy, romantic hair just like that. I’ve learned to like my curly hair, I suppose :) . I agree with Mon about your lips … they’re so sensual. These photos are just sexy AND romantic.

Hehe, the boob pictures are great. Sometimes I think I am just a boob to Luna. Lately, she wants to “mama” all the time.

Much love to you, and hope you get some beautiful rest!

Juliana, thanks for the comps, honey. Yeah, I know what you mean about just being a boob to your kid. It’s been such a long time since I nursed Rubin that I think his new fascination with my chest is the next stage stuff. The last year has been very amusing, in terms of his growing awareness of the differences between boys and girls. It led to some amusing conversations in public toilets, which must have sounded hilarious to people who could hear us:
“Has Grandma got a willy?”
“No, Rubes, Grandma’s got a foo-foo.”
“Has xyz got a foo-foo?”
“Yes, and so has Aunty Joey and Aunty Nat… ”
“But Grandpa doesn’t have a foo-foo?”
“That’s right.”
etc etc…. you get the impression.

Much love, hun.

Oh, that is funny stuff. I’m sure I’ll be getting this from Luna before I’m ready. You seem to be so good-humored about it. Probably the best way to be.

xoxo
